Yule Log (now with Bacon!)

So, this is the monstrosity that I promised you. C and my brother Stupid came up with this plan as they devised their Christmas brunch game plan (C is the resident breakfast chef around here, and Stupid is his east-coast counterpart in that regard). It was inspired by the “Bacon Party” that Stupid made a bacon weave for (don’t worry, instructions are included) and a measure of whiskey. Things went downhill from there, as you will see.

In addition to Kahlua French toast, we had cheesy grit-cakes (Stupid’s recipe, sounds kind of weird but so good), some fruit and, of course, mimosas. Neither one of them have yet given me the actual recipe, which is why this has taken so long, so this is merely a photo tutorial. Despite my horror of the sheer excess of this dish, everyone raved about how amazingly delicious it was. If you like meats with your breakfast, this is the thing for you!!

first you get some sausage...

then you brown it.

then you make a giant pancake, but don't cook it too much

next you wrap the sausage up in the giant pancake...you could scramble some eggs for in there, too.

take some turkey bacon and wrap up the pancake to hold it together...

...and start weaving your bacon

fry your bacon weave, but not too much

you want it to still be flexible enough to wrap around the pancake.

secure with toothpicks and bake the whole thing at 350 until the bacon looks cooked. if you have any leftover pancake batter, drizzle it on top.

behold, the finished product. enjoy!
